Frequently Asked Questions gel nails/artificial nails

Does applying gelnails/artificial nails hurt?

If your artificial nails or gel on own nails are placed in a professional and correct manner, this procedure is entirely painless. Should you have a painful feeling or or your nails colour red, then most likely your nailtechnician filed through your nail plate. This is - sorry enough - a common error which is absolutely unforgivable! If this happens, we advice you to change to another nailstudio as quickly as possible.

Should the gel applied be thin or thick?

The gellayer on your own nails or on your artificial nails must resemble a muuch as possible the form of a beautiful, natural nail. A frequent error is that the gellayer stands ' convex ' and is applied too thick on your own nail/artificial nail. Such errors are in principle a consequence of the inexperience or bad training of your nagel technician or of the use of 'cheap' gel products. Of course such a 'convex' nail is aesthetically not very pleasing to the eye.

What is the difference between gel en acrylic nails?

Gelnails on the one hand and acrylic nails on the other hand are applied in a different manner and the hardening of the products also differs. The most important difference however is that acrylic nails can in principle be detrimental for your natural nails. Acrylic nails are normaly removed with an acetone product which is detrimental for your natural nails.

Can your own nails incur damage by having artificial nails?

If the artificial nails or gel on own nails are placed in a professional and correct manner, your own nails will not be damaged. However, this only applies applies to gel nails and off course we assume that your nail technician is experienced and good products have been used.

However, should your nails be painful/red, we advise you to go to another nail technician (since probably your nail bed has been filed through...). Also we advice against applying acrylic nails because of the use of certain aceton-based removers used in this respect.

Can you do everything with nailextensions?

In principle you can do everything with artificial nails what you normally would do in day-to-day life. Of course when applying artificial nails, attention must be paid to the length of your new nails. (Very) long artificial nails will be more difficult to work with when you work a lot with your hands. Smaller nails will consequently be applied. It goes without saying that you should not use your nails as a tool and be careful with aggressive (cleaning)substances, just like you would do with your natural nails. Summarising the aforementioned means that the length will be influenced by your work - and home activities.

How long should I wait for another treatment?

Since the gel or artificial nail is placed on your natural nails, your natural nails will grow further. Depending on the speed that your natural nails grow, the gel layer or your artificial nails must treated. Generally the time between treatments amounts to 3 to 4 weeks.

Can nailbiters be helped or can problem nails be treated?

The natural nails of nailbiters as well as problem nails (torn nails, frail nails...) can normally be perfectly looked after by placing artificial nails or strengthening the nails with gel, even if your natural nails are very short. However please note that your natural nails must have a certain minimum length to place artificial nails. In this respect you should show your nails to your nail technician before making an appointment.
